OPEIU Midwest United Local 2009 is pleased to announce the approval of additional union benefits through AFLAC for members to voluntarily participate in at substantially discounted rates. The Benefits include Accident, Cancer, Short-Term Disability Dental and Vision Insurance.

The AFLAC protection plans are in addition to the current benefits offered to OPEIU Midwest United Local 2009 members:
- Accidental Death & Dismemberment Benefit: Your Local provides coverage through American Income Life for each Member in good standing and Retiree Members. The benefit includes $3,000 per Member. Midwest United offers an additional $2,000 of AD&D coverage for each Member through the OPEIU International Benefit program.
- Death Benefit: Midwest United offers all members a $1,000 Death Benefit
- Disability: Midwest United offers a maximum $250 Disability Benefit for Members on a Medical leave.
- Towing Service: Midwest United offers members access to a towing service through Nation Safe Drivers. This Benefit entitles you to two (2) towing/service calls per year for anyone living in your household.
- Careington Medical Discount Card/Access to a 24 Hour Nurse Hotline: Members (and member’s family) are entitled access to a Discount Network for dental, prescriptions, vision, hearing and medical equipment/diabetic supplies. If you do not have a card, please contact the Benefits Coordinator.
- Perks Card: As an OPEIU member, you will receive discounts on items such as movie tickets, video rentals, dining out, healthcare, car repairs, home improvements and much more. If you do not have a card, please contact the Benefit’s Coordinator.
- Scholarship Funds: The Howard Coughlin Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to 20 members or their children for undergraduate university or college education. The John Kelly Labor Studies Scholarship provides assistance to members or associate members who wish to pursue undergraduate or graduate degrees in labor studies, industrial relations, social science or a related field. Ten scholarships (one per region) are awarded annually.
- Union Privilege Program: A no-fee, low-interest Master Card available only to union members and associate members. Other benefits include a union-member-only Mortgage and Real Estate program that offers competitive rates, down payments as low as 5%, strike protection and financial assistance, a first-time buyers program, term-life insurance plan, health needs service, loan program and union family savers program.
